The Vine
Yo Mafia
1. HOW DID DEM BONES COME TOGETHER?
A long love affair with adventure, hunting, dress ups and fabrics. These vices were infused with a
background in fashion and film styling that created the magic that DBV is today.
2. WHAT WAS AND IS MISSING IN THE MARKET RIGHT NOW, THAT MAKES
DEM BONES SUCH A NECESSITY?
DBV prides itself on sourcing and delivering a rich variety of designs and fabrics. Creating a cohesive
vintage collection and keeping trends in mind is essential. DBV avoids sourcing bulk quantities
without reviewing and inspecting the garment individually first hand. Being very selective about
DBV’s aesthetic expression makes for an easy find for all vintage lovers; that want to snap up
something amazing without having to do the work themselves.
3. WHEN SCOURING FOR PRODUCT, WHAT ARE THE MAIN REQUISITES IN MAKING
SURE THEY FULFIL THE DEM BONES LEGACY?
Delving into a theme, endlessly researching and creating a storyboard is usually where I start so I know exactly what I am hunting for. Using my intuition and being aware of what surrounds or influences me at this time is also important. Sourcing product usually takes a "game on approach" so being ready to travel and have your hunt locked and loaded is key.
4. YOU'RE INCREDIBLY INFLUENCED BY TEXTURES AND THE TACTILITY OF THE
THINGS AROUND YOU....WHERE DOES THIS STEM FROM?
I was exposed to various surroundings growing up which encompassed vibrant gardens, forests, farms
and lush coastal surroundings. Adventuring whilst snowboarding and surfing has also given DBV a
layered palate of inspiration. Circa 70’s, 80’s and 90’s have all impacted my passion for elaborate
pattern, design and colour. Imagination and daydreaming have also been a
massive part of DBV's aesthetic.
5. DO YOU THINK YOU'LL EVENTUALLY BRANCH OUT INTO
YOUR OWN DEM BONES APPAREL AT ANY STAGE?
My focus has always revolved around sustainability, recycling and re-inventing. The aim is to lessen
the impactful elements that affect our planet by not producing more.
Less is so much more. Quality and craft over quantity.
